help inputting radio code- urgent

hi

i bought a defender radio cassette to go in my series 3

i have the 4 digit code, i have it powered up,

the radio is asking for the code but when you press the numbers nothing happens

is there some other buttons imust press first

What buttons are you pressing? Wait till the - - - - comes up on the display.

bit of trial and error, secret is not to use the number buttons to put the number code in
