Hi All

Any ideas on this ,

I have a series 3 with a 2.5 N/A diesel engine in it (with standard series gear box and r/rover diffs)

Everything seams to be running ok very little smoke etc but it is painfully slow .

I know they are not super quick motors but it struggles to get above 40 mph flat out !!!

I have check brakes for binding they are fine .

Any ideas anyone please ???

Many thanks chris

Reckon with RR diffs that's probably about right! Why the RR diffs?

Me ol' doosul III would comfortably sit at about 50 & at a pinch flat out would touch 60ish so with the gearing of the diffs that does sound about right. Solution: STICK A V8 IN IT! ;)

I put range rover diffs in as everyone told me by running a 2.5 N/a these diffs would give me a better top end speed .
Would i be better off putting series diffs back in ???

Cheers chris

what would be better then

I got told r/r diffs would match the engine better and give me a better top end
series diffs ???

Oo, 'ang on, I'm going the wrong way wiv me gearing int I! Er, yeah, you have the potential for a higher top end, but not the power to get you there by the sound of it!

Oh, & shurrup Daft!

I'd say you'd have more flexibility wiv standard Series diff & an overdrive (for downhill with the wind behind you.

Series doosuls int quick. That sed used to love mine. You just get used to watching the world go by a lot slower. I never used to find it a problem, just allowed for it. Went up from the South coast to Anglesey a few times & even used it for work on occasions doing 200+ miles a day. That's just how they are!

Cool cheers for the advise grippa

Tell me something V8 will it drop straight into a series 3 or is there alot of work needed to get it to fit ??

You have got me thinking now !!

I didn't fit mine, it came with it, but 'parently it's fairly straightforward & looks to be from what I've seen of mine & others. There's a bit of bulkhead cutting & you need to fit a leccy fan, but with the conversion kit (basically an adapter ring & injun mounts) it doesn't appear too difficult. Bloke who did mine took a week off work & did the lot on his todd!

Do a search on here & the net in general too find guides to it.

I run an ex army 90 with a 2.5n/a diesel, standard diffs and 7.50x16 tyres and on the flat on a calm day it once reached 73 mph ( checked with sat nav ) I reckon it would top out about 75-76 but Im not prepared to push it that far to find out. Acceleration is very slow but on the flat it will happily start of in 2nd which speeds things up a bit, so even on rangie diffs yours should do more than 40mph.

Thats what i was thinking mate

I have spoken to alot of people which have 2.5 n/a in series and 90 they all say i should get more lots more !!!

I pulls really nice in 1st 2nd 3rd , then into 4 and it dies its like the engine just doesnt have any power left !!!

Could it be injectors or fuel pump ??

Any advice anyone

Many thanks chris

Just been out in her again 45 mph (with a sat nav) flat out engine is not reving hard just no more power ??

Anyone got any ideas ??

i an wondering if i have overgeared it

i am running 235/85/16 tyres and the 90 diffs like i say its fine until you get to 4 th gear then its flat / dead

is this possible would i be better of getting some series diffs ???

Have you checked that the accelerator linkage moves the injection pump control lever fully when the pedal is 'to the metal'?

Not really sure what a 2.5 is like but my 2.25 makes 55 on the clock, flat out (agonisingly loud and not for anyone with a sense of mechanical sympathy)

Diesel Landys are soooo slow, but as per the earlier post you kinda adjust to it.

yeah check that the cable seams to be fine when the pedel is down to the floor the fuel pump is touching the max screw.

i reckon is has to be the diffs or could it be a injector what do you reckon

Don't know for sure, but....

If it runs cleanly (no stutters and the power is smooth and linear)
If it's standard otherwise
If the airfilter is clean
If there's no water in the system (would likely make for poor running)
If the filter is new

I'd go for the diffs. :(
