Okay, so I have been overseas for 5 months, and while I was away my battery went dead, as in completely dead. I have had that replaced, and everything starts,...except the engine. I am getting an "Engine Imobolised" message on the dash every time I turn the key.

I have a 1995 P38 4.0, and according to the manual, I need to put in a four digit code via the ignition, by inputing the number using the key. This is where it gets fun. I bought this second-hand, and never got the security code. The previous owner (who was not the original owner) also does not know it. I have contacted the local Range Rover dealership down here in New Zealand, who are trying to get the codes from the factory in the UK,..although so far this has not been overly sucessful.

My question is, if this fails, and for whatever reason they cant get the codes, is there any way of "re-setting" the engine?,...for example, can it be reset using the laptop diagnostic kit that some dealers have??

At present I have a dark green truck sitting in my driveway that would be of more use as a boat-anchor than a means of transportation,...and a wife who is adding this to the long list of reason why I shouldn't have bought it in the first place!!
