I have a Discovery 4.0 v8 lpg which every now and again the heaters blow cold and the engine gets very hot does anyone know why???

I would suggest checking the water pump. Sound to me like it's on it's was out.

Are you losing any coolant? Have you done anything to the coolant system that could have introduced an air lock? It does sound like waterpump. Does it seem to happen more when climbing steepish or long hills? If so, check the fins on the radiator aren't blocked too.
