Hi everyone,
Im new to landrover ownership so any advice on this one is truly welcomed. I have a 54plate discovery 3 ive had it just over a year. On sunday the car completely broke down and would not move. I managed to get her towed but even my local garage are baffled. The only thing thats new on the dashboard is a green flashing icon. I have been told its Hi Low switch but even when moving the switch it will not move.
The car is currently stuck outside the garage and is at risk of being towed due to where its been parked.
Any advice will be truly appreciated.

Manchester, ive messaged henshall engineering but i think he will be too busy.
Good specialists usually are.
Quick Google suggests transfer case ecu or transfer case but no point guessing is there? Some good lads on here reg. D3, hopefully they'll pick this up.

Battery voltage and condition is first thing to check

Does the engine start?
Did it move in neutral when it was recovered?
Any other faults like air suspension or park brake?

Hi,
Engine starts and it moves in nuetral just not got any gear.

There is a suspension fault its the compressor. Arms have recently been replaced.

Yeah you need dedicated diagnostics on it mate, is local garage just run of the mill?

Anyone on here Manchester way with diagnostics?

Cant get it on a ramp because its parked on a side street. All the mechanics said is he cant figure it out hes looked at it.
Time for another garage i think.

Unfortunately with a D3, it needs the codes read before going further.
When it broke down, what happened? Did it just stop moving, or wouldn't move away after parking?
Has the vehicle been maintained to LR specifications?
Unfortunately the D3 is a seriously complicated machine, which isn't exactly known for it's reliability, as it's just been so complicated.

So it needs it's codes read, then come back once you've got those.

I Was going around a bend and slowed down then i accelerated and it wouldnt pick up speed then the warning signs popped up on the dash and it came to a standstill.
All maintained to LR standards and only really gets used at weekends.
A member has sent me a local specialist i will phone them tomorrow.

Hi @newbielandy

sorry to hear of the problems , plus 1 what’s been mentioned with regard to getting the codes read

may I also ask is it a manual or automatic plse

plus as you’ve had the arms replaced do u know if it had 4 x wheel alignment done, there should be a printout

if not that will cause untold issues along with the steering wheel angle sensor to be out

once we know what gearbox u have we might be able to talk u through a few things

Hi Automatic 4.4V8. Yes wheel alignment was done straight after the arms.

thks, wonder if they reset the steering wheel angle sensor at the same time , seeing that arrow above the cabin dashboard light has come on, that’s all linked into the stability / suspension control

so with the engine running , foot on brake , push the handbrake switch down , select first gear , then when u push the accelerator down does it try and move forward at all

if not when u push the handbrake switch down do u hear the normal sound of the motor releasing the handbrake shoes

another thing is as that green low light has come on , try , engine running , foot on brake pedal , handbrake off , select neutral , push the low/ high selector to high , see if it changes to high, also double check ur terrain response dial is in the normal position, plus when u select drive does the engine just rev without the discovery moving

if not indeed will have to wait for a scanner to be plugged in , ,if The handbrake has locked n there is a cable release for that , but no point guessing

sorry that’s not much help but plse let us know how things go as plenty of us here to help where we can

Ive actually tried a couple of things youve just mentioned.
Car doesnt try to move forward on step 1.
Also when attempting to use the handbrake can hear it as normal.
I tried moving the switch but nothing happened it was just stuck on low.
Ive spoken to someone on the facebook discovery page theyve said the hi low switch has a habit of seizing so i need to go underneath and hit it to dislodge it.

I will try that tomorrow as its still stuck outside the garage on a dodgy side street.
