I have a wolf 90 and am fitting a middle from seat. I ha e removed the box between the seats which is an Avant Control unit. It has three bundles of cables coming out of it. What is it and do I need it keep it in the car?

It’s the EEGR control ecu - engine exhaust gas recirculation control unit.

you can probably relocate it somewhere else or work out what it does to the engine, look at wiring diagrams etc and figure out whether you can remove it or not

I've just been through this and here's what I found out:

You can actually just unplug and remove it (or just the wiring) and leave it at that.
The EEGR wiring is actually independent of the main wiring harnesses and many owners just blank the whole thing off at the manifold, which I shall be doing shortly.
This being Wolf-specific, you may want to join the Wolf and Tithonus Owner's page on FB. Some knowledgeable people there, but beware of being told to Read The F^@&!^g Manual by some of the less helpful souls.
Mine used to have the REMUS upgrade, but it was removed, except the piece of the seatbox mat under that EEGR box.
Removing that will leave you needing to fabricate a blanking plate, as you will have a gaping hole in the middle of your truck.
My solution has been to keep it, replace the radio mount on it and mount an OD Pelicase to hold all my crap and I have a Durite volt gauge-cum-USB-A and USB-C charging port mounted inside the case with a simple cable down to a battery.

Here's a pic of what I found under mine when I lifted it:
