Hi guys I now have no hair left or money and yet still have a problem with my P38 D Auto 2001 running when warm.
I ran a thread some time back and had lots of useful advise on sensors etc which were all looked into, eventually the timing chains were found to be extremely stretched, replaced car runs well.... untill warm.:confused::confused:

This is what I currently have:
Cold: Starts no problem, runs and pulls away towing or with air con on.
Hot: turns over for ever, will only tick over with AC off, once switched on drops to 200ish RPM sometimes stalls, turn off AC it picks up again but heres the catch only sometimes, other times acts how she should. The same with towing when warm, pulls like a train at one junction, get to the next and wont move, have to select netural rev car, idel resets, then pulls away again:confused::confused:

Sorry to bring this one back but its driving me nuts?
It would seem that something (not sure what) is not commanding the computer (not sure which one), to a just the fuel correctly when warm. Or i could be barking at wrong tree?
Please Help
Thanks:D:D

Had the same on mine will try and link the threa in a min. Basically when warm idle dropped to 370 for no reason. Had it plugged in on autologic and idle reset higher when operating temp reached. Looks like twas a fueling prob on mine works fine now.

As above - and I'd also consider having the FIP Timed correctly....if it struggles to start when hot, this usually points to the stretch in the FIP drive chain.

You say you have had the timing chains looked at - next up is to retime the FIP to take into account the stretch in the pump drive chain - check RAVE for the measurement tolerances - needs to be set up on a DTi to be spot on, you can't guess it unfortunatly.

Also live data will qualify the pump timings with the No. 4 Injector and the Crank Sensor.....

If the idle drops to stalling point with the AC on - I suggest the idle speed is too low - again this points to a miss timed FIP (As the FIP timing controls the idle speed too)....

Hi guys thanks for info so far, just to clarify i've had both chains replaced with new and they made a huge difference.
Just back from RM motors and he plugged and played for me, he did look at the tick over speeds and she is already set a +4 (each unit approx 50rpm) so as said above this would help if it was just at idle.
This even has him scratching his head:( as has asked the data company to call him later. The force is strong in this one:fighting2:

As SV8 say's, plus the idle speed can be adjusted with diagnostics.

hi thanks, all chains good, all timings crank etc all good, the thought process is starting to lean towards ECU, hoping to find one to try for a few days from friendly breaker, any suggestions in this neck of the woods?
