help //advice please

hi good people I am looking at a discovery2 ,2.5 diesel on a w plate ,has 4 months mot good tyres not seen it in the tin yet but can you give advice on what to look for so I don't buy pile of crap thanks m

Off the top of my head.

Steering box leak.
Wheel Hub bearing leak.
Play in steering.
Pulling brakes.
3 Amigos.
Transfer box leak.
Vibration when accelerating or maintaining certain speeds. (prop shaft)
Full operation of hi-low range.
Full operation of all electrics.
Wet carpets.
Operation of sunroofs.
Rust on chassis, especially around fuel tank and rear suspension components.
Excessive smoke when accelerating.
Td5 engine should start instantly when cold, no more that 5 seconds of cranking.
Fuel leaks around tank/filter/rear of engine.
Crunchy gearbox.
Knocking from rear especially when reversing or side to side rocking. (watts linkage)

I'm sure there are more

The main thing is the chassis. they tend to go at the rear end and on the underside and just blow open on the seam. I looked at 04 plates that were rubbish when buying mine so age is no indicator (mines an X plate and is very good). A bad chassis will make the car uneconomic. Unlike other land rovers they can only be repaired so far.

they can be repaired, but your better buying something that doesn't need it yet, unless it's cheap and you can do it yursell
