Just bought an 04 plate Discovery II.
Disco failed its MOT on excessive corrosion on the nearside front and rear chassis amongst other smaller things like brake discs and leaking power steering.

Haven't had a chance to get under it and inspect it, but am thinking along the lines of if it needs a new chassis then I might have a go at replacement.

Not a fan of side steps and A bars so this first things i'll be selling are these plus the lights guards, watch this space.

04 plate and needs chassis replacement...?! If you don't mind disclosing what did you manage to pick that up for. Apologies if that's a personal question.

Looks great !.
Light guards go for big bucks and your looking at a ton plus for the A bar.Looks like you've got the new GG at tyres fitted as well.
There's some good rear chassis sections on the market now so you may be able to get away without a chassis swap.
Great colour for hiding the dirt aswell.

Height scensor looks nice and new.....you would have thought whoever fitted it might have noticed the chassis was a wee bit dodgy and saved their pennys.:p

That was me, always have spare sensors in the garage, when I got it it had the dread lean. 2 new sensors and a right as rain

Is that stick on decorative trim or a factory option on the front bumper corner trims, not seen that one before but it looks good.

Factory fitted, its a Pursuit Special Edition, also has a 'Murryfield' plate on the back beside 'Discovery' all were on the vehicle when purchased new.

Update

While practising my welding skills prior to tackling the problem chassis, I have started taking things apart and sorting things out

Rear bump stops were missing, replaced
Suspension sensors, replaced
Suspension Air bags, replaced
Power Steering box, seals replaced

and the little things
Rear Windscreen Wiper, replaced
Fuel filler flap catch, replaced
Camshaft seal, replaced
Rear Number Plate, both bulbs replaced
Number plates, replaced
Washer bottle lid, replaced

Whilst under the vehicle noticed that the Under-body Protection Bar was non existent and had rusted through, read on here that most people just remove and forget about as its around the £100 to replace.
Decided to put my fettling skills to the test and managed to fabricate the missing rusty bit, weld it up, 2 coats of Hammerite and a job well done (pics to follow when paint dry)

Jobs still on my list

Discs and pads all round
Chassis welding

and then an MOT

I just can't see how it has got that bad in just 10years !!! My 51 plate has none ! Not even my 79 e21 alpina c1 has got that much and it's been sat for over 20years . Well done biggeeeee for saving her :)

Likewise, my 51 plate is in much better condition, chassis wise, interior is a little tired.
