Well, after many years of loving Land Rovers I've gone ahead and got myself one. A 1989 90 200TDI (defender engine) on a galvanised chassis. I don't pick it up until this weekend (new clutch being fitted) so no problems at the moment 
. Pretty sure I will come across a few though so no doubt some posts will be made pretty soon asking for advise.....
I'm down near Portsmouth/Southampton are so if anyone wants to introduce a newbie to green laning at some point that would be appreciated.
