Hello all. I am new to this forum although I have owned a Land Rover for a few years now (an ex army 1965 88" 2a). The reason for joining now is the recent purchase (this week) of a 2005 Freelander TD4 HSE. The FL has been bought as my wife's car - but I am keen to find out more about the vehicle - hopefully aided by you lovely lot. The 2a has its moments of course - Lucas electrical challenges and oil leaks (I like to think she's scent marking) to name a couple, just hope the FL is just as reliable and easy to fix. Stories of vcu failures are already filling me with dread!

It's been 6 days and the Freelander hasn't broken down yet - don't know what all the fuss is about.

The 2a was built as lhd and spent most of its service life in Germany I believe. Just a standard Rover 8 in DBG. It has a 'Y' registration now, registered in the UK in 1982. I think Jacksons converted it to rhd at the same time (there is a L Jackson & Co stamped plate covering the hole in the dash). It has the right aged wheels, the correct aged windscreen glass, FV (fighting vehicle) head lamp glass, a dynamo and an increasingly tatty military tilt and so on, survived quite well.

I bought it five years ago and keep it as a fun means of getting around - I am sitting in it now having just completed the third tip run of the week.

Wonderful old vehicle. I bet I will be saying the same thing of the Freelander in 39 years time when it will be the same age!
