Hi everyone

I've just moved back to the UK after 5 years away and am looking to buy a good 2nd hand diesel 5 door Freelander. It will be doing very low milage.

I want to make sure I get a TD4 engine, but am not too worried about the rest of the spec. The car is for my wife and son though, so would have to be reliable.

Alternatively, would anyone recommend a Discovery Mk2 over the Freelander?

Can anyone give me a price guide and also advise on a good indie workshop to get it serviced.

All the best

Richard

reliable and freelander are an oxymoron surely?? always go for the disco over the gaylander Check Auto trader for asking prices and Ebay for realistic sellling prices. and haggle using both sets of info.

:welcome2:hi Richard

Have 2 freelanders in our family and they are a good reliable and economical motor "in my opinion"

you go for which ever suits your needs best

Both have their faults. The TD4 Freelander is probably the best of the bunch. I would go for a post-01 TD5 Discovery 2.

But you need to drive both and see what you like as well. I used to have a Mondeo that was a reliable as a hammer but I hated the soul-less sodding thing. :)

Go for the Td4. It's reliable, economical & can be easily tuned for reasonable power for around £250. Welcome.
