Hi folks
I'm in Newcastle under Lyme and I recently bought my first landrover.
It's a M reg Disco 300TDi. It has 167k on the clock.
It had just had the head gasket done and started 1st time and drove well.
So like and idiot last week when it was almost empty on fuel I put 10 quid of unleaded in it. I had 50 quid on me so I put 40 quid of Diesel in and drove home ( 2 miles ).
Later that day the car would not start. I tried to syphon the tank but there must be an anti syphon on it. No drain plug and the access plate to the top of tank is corroded fast.
I removed fuel filter... stunk of petrol... and filled with diesel and refitted. Undid bleed screw, filled with lift pump lever, closed bleed screw and car started. I went to fuel station and filled to top with diesel. I noticed that thread had gone on bleed screw.
Car has been difficult to start over last few days. Sometimes starts after several turns. Sometimes runs battery flat and I have to jump start with Mondeo. When jump starting the cranking is far more aggressive and Landy starts straight away ( maybe battery on Landy feeble ). I'll try tomorrow from Mondeo from cold.
I've used half a tank of the diesel/petrol mix. Once running seems okay, but a bit feeble on banks.
The worry is that I've noticed the fuel pump leaking from the top by the spring (governor seal?). I don't know if this is since adding the petrol. Could petrol have damaged this seal? When priming using lift pump lever I can hear air sucking by the fuel pump leak.
I'm planning on burning off all fuel, getting new fuel filter housing (to cure bleed screw thread problem), refilling with diesel and see how it goes then. I'll have to do the seal on the fuel pump but I'm not sure if this is why it's not starting.
Thanks for reading. Comments and advice please!
Colin
