Hi. Just joined because I was looking for a bit of info on a Defender, and found the site.
I have a 69 2a 109 which I've had for around 20 years. I did a galv conversion on it years ago, and had the engine rebored, bought all kinds of new parts and put it back together. It's been running fine ever since, and always starts up - never lets me down.
I also have a 91 Defender 2.5 petrol - ex MoD police. Aside from 2 switches on the dash for lights and siren - there's no other modifications. I've had it for probably 15 years now, and it too has been great to drive and own. Just minor things - petrol tank, exhaust, head gasket, coolant hose.
I feel like I want to do a bit of renovating on the Def. It's in pretty good nick, because it's not been off road - and aside from the rear cross member, the chassis is good. The engine seems a bit lack-luster though, and, although it's not smoking, no knocks or other noises and not using oil, it does slow down a bit prematurely when I go up any hill. 90k on the clock with no work - aside from a head gasket about 15 years ago, so I'm thinking I might get it out and give it the once over. But then, as we all know, that will lead to all sorts of other things being done to it - so I'm just going to change the ignition bits first, and check the timing before I start anything that I don't have time to finish.
Anyway - I'd be interested to hear form any other owners in and around Hereford.
Cheers - Justin.
