Hi,

finally bought my first Landy at the end of march, i've wanted one since i was a kid. First time i took it out i passed a group out greenlaning and when i bought junes issue of LRO i recognised them, turns out they were the group doing the camping and greenlaning feature!

being a newbie i haven't yet plucked up the courage to take it off road yet (despite all the lanes near where i live!) but that'll change at the weekend, am going to the dirty weekend at bircham newton, any tips/advice greatly appreciated.

Well, first of all :welcome2: to the mad house.
What Landie you got? just so we all know the things to take the p*ss out of you for :p

I ended up getting a Defender 90 Td5, no doubt i'll be giving plenty of people opportunity to laugh and take the **** at my amateur off roading skills!

don't try to run before you can walk. OR YOU WILL BREAK SOMETHING. watch what other 90s can do before you try it, talk to people in the know, most important thing have fun in it.

thanks, apparently the course at bircham is suitable for beginers with plenty of people to help out, so seems a good place to start.

Wickford90, are there any sites near you you'd recommend for newbie like me? I grew up in Rayleigh and still have family there so might take the landie down that way sometime.

there is one at rochford which i hav'nt used but heard its a bit extreme , new one opened in chelmsford tried it once when it was really wet and me diff lock was'nt working so could not comment. i do use bures on the essex /suffolk border which would suit you its open and you can see what your letting yourself in for, im going there this sunday . dont know where you are but if you decide to go would show you around ( i am no expert )
if you put your location someone will point you in the right direction. have fun

if ya do go dont be tempted to go through the water there are a couple of water runs that will swallow you whole watch where others are going before trying

:welcome2:

I thought bures was closed  My mate used to go there a couple of years ago and he said the owner had sold the land to a developer for housing  He drown his SJ there in one of the lakes there :D
