Hello, just thought I'd say hi as a Disco owner new to this forum. Got to say for a while I've perused the forum, but now I've taken the plunge.

My first Disco was a 2000 TD5 Adventurer LE 7 seater. Had it for 4 years. In that time it had a new ACE pump, ACE pipes, a starter motor, more ACE pipes, 3 brake calipers, a battery, 4 tyres, an injector loom, changed the non-working air suspension to springs, plus the usual servicing costs 110000 miles on it when it went, needing a lot of chassis work.

Being a glutton for punishment (although when working it was the best thing ever) I thought I'd buy another. Now got a 2004 TD5 Pursuit 5 seater. No ACE, no air bubbles to keep it springy and generally a little simpler, hopefully to keep the reliability good. It has been totally reliable so far (okay, I'm into the third week of ownership).

Do I miss the bells and whistles the other one had? Not much, and it's usually the little things I miss. The CD changer, the auto dimming mirror and such things. Hardly used the rear seats so that's no loss. It does corner a little less well with conventional roll bars, but hey, if I enter it into a Grand Prix, I'd worry.

I see second hand auto dimming mirrors with the compass on Fleabay go for around £100 (phew - anyone got one a little cheaper?) and of course I could always change the stereo if I wanted. In time I'll have to get more nobbly tyres, the ones on now are roadies and I need the ability to cross mucky fields from time to time. But that apart, at present, you're reading a post from a happy Disco owner.

By the way, when looking I saw an American auto dim mirror for a Disco 2 that had the compass on and also "homelink" I guess this must be American market only, but what does that do?
