Hi everybody,
I am a brand new member from Essex. I hope you don't mind but I am also looking for advice. I am considering buying a 1999 1.8 freelander xei from a friend. It has only done 77k miles and is the three door version. It has a rattle from what I believe to be a loose exhaust and more worryingly a very loud knock at very low speeds normally when manouvering. They only want £500 for it and it seems too good to be true. Primarily I will use it for everyday use and perhaps eventually some light off roading and possibly use it as a project. I think it seems a bit of a bargain. So I would value a more expert opinion and any help and advice would be gratefully recieved

That loud knock may be something simple like loose diff mounts.
It maybe worth a punt at £500, could always break it for spare parts if it becomes a money pit.
See if you can get the price down any lower.

Ditto-ish. There are lots of early FLs about so might be worthing looking around a bit more. Personally if it has got to be an early on (budget limits) then I would try and find a diesel.

The knock could be a number of things from £50 to £500.
