i have noticed a leak in the above hose at the baulkhead end ,where it
connects to the heater pipe. strange thing is it is of an oily clear subtance
when my coolant is red. it is dripping on outlet pipes and also drips on to
the rocker cover where it seems to turn in to a greeny yellow subtance
like aliens blood.:alien:

can someone confirm this is coolant or something else prehaps. also was
this pipe part of a recall once.

i would take heater side off first and put new one onget some body to squeese it then do other end should not loose to much that way

Mines the same , drips down from the gearbox but is gree when g/box fluid is red.

Asked an expert what it is, as it is like oil between your fingers and he tasted it and said it was antifreeze.

Its so thick though its like oil.

Very odd!

changed it today with no problems. done what you said, heater side off first and quickly got new pipe on. probably lost about a pint of coolant. biggest **** off was £30 for that
and 2 breather pipes from jsf in norwich ( right rip off ). i could have got them from internet a lot cheaper but i wanted it done today so i can get back to this mpg headache.

I'm sure I've seen posts somewhere about the dangers of mixing old/new coolants resulting in a rather thick substance that can block rad cores etc. Presumably is would include heater matrixes. If this is true I hope you flushed the system fully before putting in new coolant.

no way. i had a new rad, system flushed and nice new coolant about 3 weeks ago.
i am sure that losing a pint and re topping with de-ironised water is not goung to hurt.

whats the MPG headache?

I have to say my 3.9 seems to use tooooo much fuel, and I am used to big fuel bills as I also drive a 4.0 v8 bmw , but this rangie is something else.
