Hi all,

facelift 2004 TDI

The switch on the heated front window no longer lights up and the screen wont work.

I checked the 3 fuses in the small engine fuse box (all ok) and have replaced the relay next to it but still no luck.

When I checked the relay wiring there is a constant 12 v from the battery supply, but when the front window switch is turned on the switching cable only registers 1.5 volts, so it is not enough to switch the relay over to the battery supply cable.

When I took out the switch and press it it also registers 1.5 volts to the relay.

Is there a fuse to the switch I have forgotten about ?, or any ideas ?

What voltage is going TO the switch? If it's 12v on the unswitched side your switch has failed with high resistance (usually arcing on the contacts). If the switch supply is low then you need to trace back to the fuseboard and find where the resistance is coming in. That amount of drop will be creating a lot of heat somewhere, so take care!
