I've finally got the heater working. The control cables were seized, so I've just cut them off.

On the heater box there's a thing on low down on the side that opens and closes a door from the heater to the duct - all air on and off.

On the top there's another 'thing' that moves a flap inside the box and gives hot and cold.

My question is - how do you direct the air either up or down? Mine is giving great flow to the screen, either hot or cold, but nothing at all to the footwells. Neither of the controls in the heater box seem able to influence this.

Is there a flap inside the car somewhere?

Aha. Mines a left hand drive. I have a lever to the right of the speedo that does the fan and something else presumably, as it's ruddy stiff.

There are two levers on the left that are presumably connected to the cables on the box, but the decals are long since gone so i can only guess at their function...

Whereabouts is the flap? I might have to move it without the cable, as doubtless it's full of twenty years of sand, like everything else.

The cable that works the flap for demist or heat at yer feet goes into the lower dash. Ye might be able to see it in these photies (right hand side )....

not the best, but gives ye an idea;)

Thanks Buster. I get it now. Looks like the two footwell outlets have flaps that just close them off.

I'll try and free the cable off, but imagine I'll have to try and move them by hand - or screwdriver!

Try dribbling some oil or summit down the cable to see if that works.. or take the bottom vent covers off and try pushing the flaps to see if that's the problem ;)
