After repairing the old fire damaged heater control wires  I noticed that an adjustment cable was not connected to the left hand fan speed lever - item #3 circled in red in the pic.

The heater control works fine, both speeds ok but when I managed to attach the cable to the lever, the lever would barely move. Penetrating oil, time and wiggling got to to move from hi (2) to lo (1) speed but it was not possible to shut the motor off. So I unclipped it.

What does this cable control? The right hand levers are for hot/cold and cabin/screen and this one is trying to do something but I don't know what! o_O

Any clues most welcome.

1 does the flap on the side
1does the flap on the top.
Can’t remember which is which but 1 does the screen/feet.
& 1 shuts the box off completely so no air flows in.
Looking at #3 in the picture looks like the shut off cable

Thanks @Hicap phill . So the shut off cable must be seized, guess that's why I get air flow even when the lever is at the top O position
