L322 Heated Windscreen issue - Only Passenger side works

When the system was modernised it became 220 and later 240 volts per phase and the neutral was introduced, however double pole switches and isolators were retained and when MCBs were introduced the regs required that they were also double pole. Many French Sparkies still ignore the regs and you may find the neutral on either side of a socket:eek::D:D:D

I have done the full up to date regs, wired several houses including a new build and had them all passed by the government inspector. For sockets, looking from the front with the earth pin uppermost, live is on the right as in the UK.In the last couple of years or so, the sockets have actually started coming with L, N & E marked, when I arrived there were no markings. No ring mains here either, I quite like the French wiring systems.

When I travelled through France with the caravan I always checked where the live was on the sockets, I have an adapter to use if the live is in the wrong place.

I agree with you there, i like the way its done here also.
When we bought our house it had only one light switch and one socket, two old giant fuses in a bakelite casing and a spinning meter from the 60's....
Rewired by the book.. ended up with four banks of fuses to cover the house and went from 6a to 45a feed from EDF....

Hi Chris, have the same problem. I took off the air bag cover on the drivers side A pillar and there are three ribbon connectors, a small one that I think heats a strip where the wipers sit and two bigger ones which I think are for the left and right heating elements I assume this setup is duplicated on the passenger side. The relay is at the passenger side and can be accessed by removing the triangular shaped trim on the end of the dash next to the heater vent.
I could not see any damage to the ribbons on the drivers side and with the engine running I could hear the relay clicking as I pressed the front screen heater switch on and off'
I will have a look at the passenger side ribbons next but ran out of light to-day. As far as I know there is only one fuse and one relay for the front screen heater so if one side is not working I think it must be a damaged ribbon or element within the screen, but It wouldn't be the first time I was completely wrong :)
Let me know if you discover anything with yours.

Cheers Neil, I'm starting to think the fault is with the windscreen as you suggest, I'll check the relay too now I know where it is. But getting a reading at the double plug suggests power is getting there but then nothing.

...just realized, I tested the double plug whilst unplugged and got 13.5v, connected the windscreen plug and tested from the windscreen side (put prongs into windscreen plugs) and got 0v ....that's not right, maybe I just have bad connections or the plugs are damaged.

As I said earlier 13.5 volts with no load means nothing, you could get that with a piece of string soaked in salt water.
0 volts with load means there is a high resistance point in the circuit somewhere, most likely it's the relay but it could be a connector.
 
Very true sorry skipped over that point, cheers - for £20 I'm going to change the relay, at least I know that's ok then.

£20 for a relay:eek: Must be a special gold plated Land Rover one:rolleyes: You could test the relay.
