not strictly speaking true - with VERY CAREFUL use of Electro-conductive paint and windscreen glue (its like Superglue, but slightly flexible) yu can get away with it.

Sometimes

Depending how exactly its broken, I've soldered them before , but i aint going to recommend it :)

Cause if i do , your bound to **** it up :p

It depends if the connector has snapped and your reconnecting half the connector to the other , or its come away from the screen completely.

depending on how its come off, I repaired my old cavalier screen by roughing up the screen and tag with fine emery cloth, then glued the tag onto the screen with (i think) araldite. Then (before you all scream araldite is an insulator) I roughed up the back of the tag and the surrounding tracks VERY gently with said emery cloth, then painted over the tracks and tag with conductive paint, sold for repairing heated rear screens. I think I used about 5 coats and it was still working fine when I sold it (god rest her soul, gone to the great breakers in the sky)

just ask for windscreen rear view mirror adhesive - not the sticky pads - It is made by Loctite.

Also the electro-conductive paint can also be found there.

1. Clean the area as carefully as you can.
2. Paint some conductive paint onto the window where the connector needs to go.
3. Place connector on screen and hold in place with blue-tack or something, making sure you can reach all the way around the edge of it with a paintbrush.
4. Keep painting layers of the conductive paint (be as liberal as possible) around the connector, letting it ooze under it as well.
5. Let it almost dry (takes a couple of hours) and repeat 4-5 times.
