Ok, I KNOW I shouldn't need to ask, but is there any likely cause for my heated mirrors to not be heated?

The rear screen heats up in a flash, but the mirrors don't even get warm.

My likely suspects are, the mirrror's themselves, most likely the connection at the back or possibly the BECM with it's dodgy damp plug/socket which played havoc with my front drivers window in the recent past.

But I just wondered if there may be a common explanation for lack of heating.

Thanks all ;)

Heated mirrors are supposed to be on at all times with engine running. Elements fail. There is no wiring for them nor are they mentioned anywhere i can find in wiring diagrams unless i am going blind.

cheers Mr W.

so who's Crazy foo idea was that?

I'm guessing I'd I want them to work again I'll have to shell out some more coin? I suppose I could interrupt the circuit with a switch...

Really? I thought they only worked with rear demist. Guess the wires are behind the little tweeter and connect to the door outstation? Will check next time I have the door apart.

Well that would have been my guess so I'm going to check the feed to the elements to see if either It's permanent or comes on with the rear dentist That way, if I detect a voltage I can replace the mirror. If no voltage, I can check the out station and work back...

I will keep you posted of course

Getting the glass to pop out without breaking the pastic thing it sits in is a PITA. Buy 3 replacements and it'll go fine. Buy none or 1 and I guarantee the sod will break.

That thought had crossed my mind, so I thought of ways to encourage it out without breaking and the only way I could think of was hot jet wash so it would get in behind the glass, then tease it out...

Yeah really, well according to the hand book Land rover recon so, but then again what do they know. ;);):D

Been there done that with mine, it was both elements broke and coming off the glass. Hope you haven`t got the auto dim ones though, the price of those when I replaced my bog standard ones was alarming !

The little plastic holder things break rather than the glass. They're about £1.50 each but weak as pig****.

Next time use a scraper between the outer edge of the mirror and the casing. Gently push the mirror towards the door and it should unclip itself.

Yep push outside of mirror in until inside is sticking out. Then lever gently against outside edge and lift inside edge outwards. Mornin Alan.

Thank all for the replies. The RR mirror is a lot bigger than most so I may yet win this war.... Just need a bionic leg, ankle and some ribs so I can get going a damn sight quicker because I'm fed up having to ask others to help doing stuff I can normally do blindfolded

Just bought 2 heated glass parts & 2 plastic adapters for less than 30 quid off ebay.

I can imagine there is a glitch with the originals seeing as how they are 17 years old. However, if they are working, I'll have cheap spares...

Figure out which wires are gong to the mirror you may be able to do a continitnuity check off the plug but only if they are the right sort of heaters.
On your spares is there a copper track continuous (like one of them maze things) or are the copper tracks not touching but running into a black mass.

Heated mirror is powered by Green wire from pin 1 of plug and grounded by Black wire to pin 6 of plug. Check voltage through this circuit with engine running.
