Heated front windscreen, worth doing?

Hello everyone, my 2005 110 the windscreen seal is knackered so will need to come out, but as the current windscreen has a couple nicks in it from stones was thinking about maybe putting a heated screen in or would that be a right pain?

Fitting either is exactly the same. The wiring isn’t too bad if your that way inclined. I can’t remember if I used 4 or 6mm, but either one was routed to a relay, then up to the screen. The screen is earthed to the bulkhead, but that has its own 10mm earth straight back to the battery.

Thanks chaps, I won’t be fitting or doing the wiring but it will be a huge luxury on the cold winter mornings, I find the heaters don’t really heat until I’m driving but if it would be silly expensive I’d just buy the standard one

I've got a 110 SW and my missus had the XS with a heated screen
lt's not just first thing in the morning, it's great when it rains and if you have passengers to stop the screen misting up all the time.
l've got a screen and wiring to fit in mine when l get around to it.

After air con a heated screen is defo on my essentials list on any car.
It is not so much the de icing ability, the fact you can clear slightly foggy screens on a damp cold morning makes them super useful.

After your first car with air con you'll never again buy one without it. Same is true for a heated windscreen.

I did and I’ve felt it! Unless vents count as aircon!

About 20 years ago I had a new company car with all the whistles n bells. One day a colleague with a lesser specced car gave me a lift, I asked her what the quaint little winding handles on the doors were for. She stayed silent. Then I asked where is the air con button. She said its that quaint little handle on the door.

Vents definitely count, and you get to then play games with the passengers like the woman in @Wimblowdriver story

Aircon in a TD5 does a nice job of keeping you cool in the summer, but in my experience doesn't clear the screen or keep it clear.
So a heated screen is still a great thing to have even in a Defender XS

Had heated screen & mirrors on my 90 since 2001, wouldn't be without either.
Back in 2013 I made up some side demisters which keep the side windows mist-free in all weathers (cold & wet days are the worst when condensation can otherwise be a nightmare). Rather than buying the ones that fit on op of the top-rail (which wouldn't fit my early dash with narrow vents) I tapped into the main heater duct (forms the lower section of the dash) and used 20mm corrugated conduit to exit out of the end panel at each side of the dash.

Makes the LR almost as user friendly as a normal car!

I fitted the official Britpart kit for the side window demisti guess.
Two new heater ducts, two outlet pieces some clips and a length of hose

But it does have some effect, it won't clear the side windows but once you've wiped them it will keep them clear.
Although you need to have the heater fan on high and directed to the screen for it to really work.

I bought and fitted myself. A bit scary, but was great. I used a red bison (?) kit, and does great. Although my cab doesn't have a heater so it's my only way of de-misting
