Good morning :)

My Heated Front Screen has never worked since I got the Rangie and with the fast approach of winter, I'd like to have it sorted. I've been looking through RAVE to get some pointers on where to start but the only two things I've found out are: the HFS is controlled by the HEVAC directly and that there's a plug at the passenger side... which is not very helpfull in starting to trace the fault.
I noticed that when I press the button for the Rear screen that I hear a click from the passenger's seat (mine's LHD) but I don't hear a thing when I press it the button for the HFS (but RAVE doesn't show even a fuse for this, so maybe it's normal ?).

I'd appreciate some pointers :)

Relays for the HFS are under the bonnet. Theres 2 of em, left and right, same with the fuses.

Fuse 30: Heated Windscreen LH
Fuse 32: Heated WIndscreen RH

Relay #4 Heated Windscreen Relay RH
Relay #5 Heated Windscreen Relay LH

Mine doesn't work either BTW and even though the relays click, I decided I didn't need it, too much wiring to go through for me lol.

Almost forgot this lol.

Brilliant! :)

Thanks to you I found the information in the Electrical Troubleshooting part of RAVE (never remember to go there).
The system works in series, so if fuse 5 or relay 30 are damaged, 4 and 32 won't get activated.

Let me know how you fix it, I knew about them being in series although I have swapped them round with no difference.
LH screen heater works albeit slowly and not very efficient, RH.....nothing at all.

On my screen there are stripes where the element wires are broken, so I know the supply is ok and its just some broken elements which I reckon the only fix is a new windscreen (hope that crack grows!)

If you have nothing working then possibly the relays/fuses, but the screens themselves are a weak point too.

I have found out that when the switch is operated, it turns on the LH element then the LH relay activates the RH relay which then powers the RH element.

Thats as far as I got. I checked that the RH relay was clicking (it does) and gave up because it seemed like a big wiring diagnosis job from there and that just isn't my thing lol.

Check the connections at the screen, I believe they corrode. Mine doesn't work now but it was always a waste of time, the aircon does all that is needed to keep the screen clear unless you live in the arctic or the alps.

Ye, mine has a defrost button that clears it quicker than the elements although the electric would keep it clear as it soon mists up again.
PS, are the connections those 2 things at the bottom middle of the screen?

Exactly my opinion. I need to demist in the morning but it's not confortable to keep the defrost mode on for too long. So if I could demist and then keep the window heated, it would be perfect.

If you aircon is working, with some air on the screen it should never mist up. The electric screen is really only for preventing iceing up.
