Hi

I have two broken heat shields on my 200tdi Deepender 110...

One around the turbo which is a fibreglass type, and another on the exhaust just after the drop from the engine, right underneath below the starter motor.

The turbo shield has snapped off at the top fixing - any idea how much these are, where I can get one or should I just bodge a repair?

The exhaust shield is simply an arc of metal with two brackets fitting on the exhaust - one bracket is snapped and rattles like the engine is about to blow up. Does it need this shield? Can I remove it or should I try to repair it?

Thanks!

I've got the same problem with mine (the one around the Turbo), so I'd be interested to know where to get a replacement at reasonable cost too.
I tried repairing it with an exhaust bandage - it lasted a little while, but then cracked up and fell off (I think it's too damn hot in that area).

Mine doesn't have the heat shield down the bottom.

1993 200TDi Defender 90 btw.

piccies please;).

the Disco only has one heatshield - between the starter motor and the turbo (at least mine does). Maybe you dont need both. and mine is a metal lined asbestossy type thing.

Will try and get some pics for you shortly.

The shield on the exhaust has something immediately above it - looks like some kind of hydraulic cylinder - it has solid type tubes coming out of it - can't really explain it, so will try and photo it for you.

Ok, here's some pics...

And this is the best pic I could get of the thing behind the exhaust shield

SOrry about size - I think they may be too big! ;-)

Well, that didn't work, so posted as attachments this time - same order.

You need at least one heat sheild to protect the stater motor from the exhaust/turbo heat. I was toying with getting some exhaust tape that's used on racing cars to keep the heat from getting off the exhaust (agrimech advertise it). But now I have seen what the Disco has (as per Daft's eggs-plan-a-shun) I think I will just dig out some old aluminium sheet and make up a simple sheild.

I run my 220 tdi without both of these heatshields and have no problems. The turbo one was missin when i got it nad like trewy says its fookin expensive to replace!. The exhaust one i took off when i had to replace my down pipe as the pipe had rotted out round where the brackets held the heatshield on so thought it would be better without

none of those look anything like the Disco heatshield which is mounted on a bracket attached to the starter motor (will try and get a piccy or two - but mine has, temporarily been removed). Havent you still got the Disco one, Patman? I realise the Disco turbo is in a different position, but that might not be too significant.

the pipe one - just looks like a shield to protect the clutch? slave cylinder - that could be fabricated with any sheet metal just to allow an air flow around the unit and cut down on radiated heat.

Dont think the turbo one is of any great signifigance, it would oly stop you burning yourself if you were stoopid enough to touch the turbo when it was hot, its not as if the turbo gets hot enought to burn the paint on the bonnet or owt.
The one on the exhaust sits right under the clutch slave cylinder which again aint gonna suffer extreme heat from the exhaust

I have indeed got the entire disco one... no idea if it will fit into the 110 engine bay, but I can't leave it in place as it's too close to the new downpipe and I need to connect up the starter motor wires when we get the engine into the 110.
I seem to recall (mind fades to distant exotic shores and the beaches and girly bars of Thailand...... errmmmf wrong forum.... this is LandyZone what am I saying!) that the Defender 200tdi sits further forward in the bay and the exhaust downpipe is further away from the starter motor so it will only effect those of us with Disco 200tdi's dropped in.

ere yar....
