Hi again Guys - any hints as to best stuff to use to clean 25 years of smoke, exhaust, oil and general muck off the headlining - not sure that it would stand up to power-washing!
Cheers...

OK, finally worked up the courage to attack this little problem - with fairly concentrated Swarfega Oil & Grease remover....an old nail brush...and rinsed off in the shower (wife well amused...NOT).
Now, as long as it dries ok, and doesn't fall apart, then I'll get to the other 2 sections later.

All that effort and they still showing discolour, while you got them out it would be very easy to recover with new fabric, probably less time too.

What? Spend money?? That would upset the wife and the mistress!
(shudders). Anyway, I quite like the "marbling" effect :D

When I did mine I scubbed it with a mixture of fairy liquid and Mr muscle and then some Vanish stain remover.

When it dried, I opened it up on one side and took out all of the rotten foam inside. Applied lots of carpet contqact adhesive. I then stapled it back and "no more nails"'d it to the roof.

Just had the same issue and came across Vanish carpet cleaner foam. My headlining was manky! qucik spray and I tell you looks brand new. Only need to spray it, leave it for a few minutes then clean with cloth!....
