what model? P38, L322 or Classic?
If it's an L322 then there must be something wrong, 'cos I think the xenons on the L322 are the best dipped beams I've ever sat behind.

hids...makes your night driving fun again..yes they are illegal retro fitted, but traffic dont give a monkies..i've asked them,as long as dont dazzle, and are oem colour (ie 4300k..ie white not blue,)..infact they see them as a postive driving aid..PROPERLY SET UP.

my classics run them..never again normal light bulb.

how do u mean properly set up? Hid may be an option... Its a p38. Why shudnt i up the wattage? Thanks 4 the replies, hope u all had a good xmas

Upping the wattage is never a good idea. More watts means more amps being drawn through your wiring - not a good idea in any vehicle, but particularly not a good idea on a P38 where much of the electricals are controled via the BECM etc.

wot he sed^^^^

plus more watts means more heat which means more chance of a fire and, if yu have the new plastic headlights, yu risk distorting the housing.

just try the Halfrauds EB range - Bogoff at the mo - 90% more light ouput on standard wattage due to different filament and gases. See what you think, before going down the HID route.

In respect of your head lights. Is there any corrosion, distortion, flaking of the reflector? This WILL cause tremendous loss of light. replacment is the only option in this case.
Is there any moisture on the back of lens?
Uprating bulbs to Xenon etc is a good choice if your headlamps are in good order. Pointless if not.
As for changing wattage. this can be done on some vehicles, buggers others up. PLus it is an MOT fail.
Fitting HID's is worth looking at. I am looking at doing my RRC in the new year. HID uses a little more juice to come on, but then uses less than standard bulbs while runnning. Gives a lot more light on the road as well. But do make sure you are buying a decent kit.
Preferably the white ones as this tends to give better visibility on the road over the cheaper blue ones. White light ones run a lower temp than the blue.

Fitting is easy on a good kit. Just plug and play. apart from mounting the ballast unit.

extra bright or hi watt bulbs aint any good with a quarter of an inch of mud in front .

took my ex and the kids to the airport a few days ago.....she didnt wanna go in my 109, cant think why, and wanted me to take her in her 405 only the lights werent very bright.....she'd only been driving around with a inch of snow covering them
