Series 3 headlights aren't working , full beam works , all other lights work , am thinking switch or bulb , on back of switch there are 3 wires , brown, red/black and red , has one come off ? Tried touching red and red and black but lights don't come on so does this mean it isn't the switch , surely both bulbs wouldn't have gone at the same time ? Any ideas how I can check bulbs , thanks

I take it that you have cleaned and checked the earths ? Series three indicator stalks can die.

Just had a new stalk 2 months ago and all well so far, am going to check switch and bulbs , hoping its bulbs however im assuming unlikely both will have gone at same time.

Mine had a similar problem. It turned out to be the headlight connections (bullet connectors) under the bonnet slam panel. Clean these well and check the earths.

Ok still not working , bulbs ok , switch ok , bullet connectors ok , stalk 2 months old , I'm assuming now that is a earthing problem , however was thinking would Hi beams still work if this is the case because they do?

Just a follow up to this , how many wires should there be on the back of the series 3 light switch , I have three, brown , red and black and red , has one fallen off ?

Brown Power supply middle left
Red/black tail light and dash light switch supply two wires Top right
Blue column switch unit bottom left.Headlamp supply
Red bottom right front side lights

Thanks Blackburn , happy new year , this is how mine stand red in top , red and black in bottom , brown at rear of top , no blue wire however there is a random one floating about , switch only puts side lights on in either position , if I attach blue wire im sure it permanently puts full beam on because if I do this and pull stalk forward it doesn't make and difference , also with blue wire attached whichever way I place the switch it seems to go full beam then sidelights rather than the other was around , complete nightmare !

Pulling column lever forward is flash function and is fed from a fuse direct [purple wire in attached drawing] not through light switch.
Lever pushed back is main beam mid position dipped you need the blue from column switch connected or you will not get headlight function.

Check the brown is in the right place see attached photo.
The small browns are extras fitted to mine.

Thanks , working all day tomorrow but will have a look Monday and include picture if no luck , thanks again

I just soldered the connections on the left headlight as the previous simply crumbled and wires badly corroded. Problem solved until a new headlight is needed then it will be done properly. other than that it is almost always a connection problem behind the grill.
