I recently purchased a 97 disco !. I love it. However the lights flicker I was thinking this could be a alternator issue however I was also thinking perhaps a voltage regulator. Rather then spend alot of money on swinging tree mechanics which is the more likely colperate? And I have a squeak increasing in the rear going over bumps sholuld i worry I mean imy rear end squeaks once in a awhile this car has 140K and yes i am in love

Sounds like a dodgy connection to me. If it were the regulator, wouldn't the lights just be dimmer than normal? I say that because thats exactly what happened to my car, lights were dim (plus the battery warning light came on sporadically). When the alternator was replaced, all problems disappeared.

However, not sure if it is linked to your particular problem, but try cleaning up the connection on the back of the alternator. Its the one that is covered by the black plastic covering. If you have the alternator cover plate, there are only 3 nuts to remove, and all is easily reachable. You might want to add a bit of electrolube to the connections.
