Hi,
I have a rather strange question. I live in France but have a UK spec 2011 Disco4 HSE. I've been driving it, as allowed, using the headlight 'beam flattener' that is standard with the vehicle. However, to pass the CT (sort of MOT equiv) I have to fit Euro standard headlamps for driving on the right. Replacement Xenons are really expensive so I wondered if Halogens would work with the current wiring?
I realise that is probably the opposite of what most people want to do but thought I check here to see if anyone knows.

Here's the next part of this no doubt strange question on these boards...
The standard Xenon beam flatteners that come with my UK spec Disco 4 are perfectly fine for France. I have used them for three years without any complaint from other road users. I have checked them on a computerized garage headlamp-checking thingy and it confirms that while the beam is not being cast fully to the right, it is completely acceptable in terms of throw - lights the road ahead and doesn't blind anyone.
Here's the rub. They won't pass the French MOT (CT). A new set of Xenons for RHD are over €1000. However, I have a set of RHD Halogens. The question is, how easy is it to wire in the Halogens while keeping the wiring for the Xenons?

Easy? I haven't a clue, your vehicle may be a first, but I do know if you have automotive wiring skills it wouldn't/shouldn't be a problem.

The basic installation would be diverting the dip and main 12v supplies from the ballasts to feed the halogen bulbs, but then the ECUs you no doubt have plus switching (CANBUS) may have an issue with that may be not as it will also work with halogen bulbs.

As I say any one with the skills will be able to see what is what although the may require a wiring diagram or two, hopefully they are available plus sorting the CANBUS how to do that time will tell I'm sure a LR dealer has come across your issue before in France so worth checking as even if it a one off the info goes onto their data base world wide.

Just to close this off in case in might be useful to anyone else. The European halogen lights arrived today. I unplugged the UK xenon's, plugged in the halogen's and hey presto..everything works. No rewiring needed.
So the halogen's will get me the CT and afterwards, I can pop the flat-beam xenons back in. Result.:D
