Hi all, had my headlights stolen yesterday in broad daylight.
Any advice as to how to prevent such thefts, I had light guards on as well , all gone.chopped through the bloody loom, so new connections required.

Anyone know of any for sale, (not stolen ones).

Basically, chuck away those plastic plates that fix the lights to the slam panel and make up some stepped brackets out of 3mm stainless. One has an 8mm drop and the other drops 14mm.

Make another bracket that covers the lump on the side of the headlamp (behind the grille). It needs to return around the front of the lump. You will need a longer screw to fit through this and the original tinny little L-bracket.

To get your lights they will now have to pull so hard that the lights will be of no use as the top mountings will snap out of the lamp body.

Next step is to get a couple of defender door courtesey light switches and make a couple of brackets that sit behind the plastic infill panels that go between the lamp bottoms and bumper top. Wire these in parallel with your bonnet alarm switch.

You are alarming these panels instead of the lights because these are what the theives remove first. You are setting the alarm off as early as possible and before they have even your lights in their hands.

I keep meaning to post my drawings, but have not done the final bracket yet so am holding off. A sunday in the shed should be more than enough time to knock up a set, but you will need access to a vice and a pillar drill.

Forget about straps and "security bars", they are easily lopped off with bolt croppers. The lights come out in about 12 seconds, bolt cropping takes another couple of seconds. A pair of turds will be out of and back in their false plated car with your lights in around 20 seconds.

Good luck.
