Hi guys has any one replaced there head lamp bulbs with some thing brighter but still to keep within the law, are these blue ones better can you get cree led ones, Im also thinking of putting all led bulbs in my lights. Has any one have any info on this.

D1 headlamps are not type approved for LEDs, there's loads of upgrade standard 55/60w headlamp bulbs on the market with a claimed increased in light output of 110-120%.

If you are replacing the indicator bulbs you will reqIre resistors in the circuit.

Make sure your reflectors are sound and clean, fit some decent bulbs ...

Such as Osram Nightbreakers ... :D

Do the CANBUS compatible LEDs have the required resistors built in ?

Sorry, that's far to modern for me, I would just try one and see what happens :D

I've just swapped to CREE LED reverse lights and I thought I'd bought the CANBUS ones to test with the indicators but they didn't work when I put them in . Checking ebay showed I'd bought non CANBUS ones  but they're OK as reverse lights.

I've got a pack of 470 Ohm resistors so maybe the old school ways are best after all :).

OK, so I've got a Disco 2 facelift, but the theory is still the same.
I've replaced the following with LEDs:
Rear stop/tail - red canbus 6/21 watt 380 equivalent
High level stop - red canbus 21 watt 382 equivalent
Rear fogs - red canbus 21 watt 382 equivalent
Reversing - white canbus cree LEDs 382 equivalent
Number plate - 2x white canbus 38mm festoon equivalent
Front side lights - white 6 watt 501 capless wedge equivalent
Internal courtesy and glove box - white canbus 38mm festoon equivalent

Currently I have retained the standard filament bulbs in the indicators due to the timing problems if LEDs are used in an unmodified circuit. I do have the resistors and yellow LEDs ready to install when I get around to it. The canbus system is (I believe, but I could be wrong) an electronic error detection system, not a current measuring system, consequently a parallel resistor is required to maintain the correct flash rate unless a proper LED flasher unit is fitted.
The only problem I found with the stop/tail lights was one of leakage of current causing incorrect operation. This was corrected by installing "current steering" diodes.
The headlights I have retained the 55 watt filament bulbs, but installed Osram Nightbreakers for both dipped and main beams and also in the additional driving lights and fog lights.
I have used LEDs of the same colour as the lens because I have noticed that a white LED can have a slight blue tinge which can in some cases make a red lens show a sort of purplish light, and if a lens does get cracked for some reason the light will still show the correct colour.

All of the LEDs were purchased from various sellers on that (in)famous auction website.

Can't remember where i got them from. But i tried 'flower' bulbs in my bike a few years ago. There are sprung arms on a central 'stalk' you push them all together and slide it through the hole. Then it fans out. They are pretty good. Think there was also a drum one.

I did know that a D2 is that so advance to have a CANBUS system, my weekend car has it, then all the external bulbs other than the HID head lamps are LED if any fail then will be an illuminated warning on the dash showing location.

Its known that some colour filters can alter the wavelength of LED Bulb. So as u have done use the same colour LED.
