Hi Stacy,
Are there any local Landrover clubs who might help you with typical
prices too ? The V8 is really derived from a Buick engine (around 1970)
- so a GM garage should know exactly what one looks like, and parts
should also be fairly generic.

Fine by me, just re-read your original post. It does come across very badly!

We get input from females on here very regularly & no-one has ever taken offence at any 'stupid
questions' from male or female poster that I'm aware of. Unless they are really taking the **** etc.

Stace

Relax and stop worrying about us. There really is a big cross-section
of the world that resides here - the only thing anyone is going to get
****ed about is if you keep apologising for something that's a non-event.

Don't believe anything anyone says of that nature. There are plenty
of women in this group who have an enviable range of knowledge and
experience, to think it's either a 'boys club' or "european" is quite
incorrect.

A word of advice, though. If you 'go in heavy' you can expect people
to react in a similar manner. Usenet (newsgroups) are a volotile
medium, some will be keen to help, others may feel the way you've
entered the group is hostile - and throw some back :)

right Oh I did some sniffing about and came up with

having a look at parts prices maybe its time to go have a word with the
shop and ask how they arrive at their figure the hourly rate would be a good
starting place -- the gasket set would cost about $100 ( price from
Atlantic British New York) plus 2 gallons of motor oil@ $25 per gallon
(thats amsoil synthetic) an oil filter and a couple of quarts of antifreeze
so in total say $200 ( cant say if extra taxes are due or shipping costs )
I reckon an hourly rate of between $162 and $225
so go on tell me what I have missed out ? $999 for a brand new head??

Please stop stereotyping eh :)

Did they ever export diesels to the US in 1993? - I thought NAS sort of
implied V8

Ok - figured out I am supposed to write BELOW you all - so, catching on
now..
I CAN confirm it isn't diesel - that would mean diesel fuel right? Not
diesel fuel.
But I don't know it is a V8 - I am very very uneducated.. please bear with
me..

And yes to all who wrote back - my original post DID sound bad.... or is the
word "naughty?"
here I am getting off on the wrong foot... here I am putting out an olive
branch - and won't apologize anymore to the guy who said "stop apologizing"
OK . THANKS.

Google for 'OE Quotefix'. Download and install it. It will enable
Outlook Express to actually put the cursor below the text that you are
replying to. It will also do a passable job of making the quoted
material easier to read.

So we're now 99% certain it's a V8. Open the bonnet (hood) and count
the number of spark plug leads.

Crumbs, you'll fit in a treat here - there's some locals who've been
here for ages and still haven't managed to figure this :)

It probably _is_ a V8 - unless someone else has changed the engine
previously. If it _is_ a V8, you can easily purchase spares from here
in the UK and have them sent out - this will work out a lot cheaper
than buying locally - alternatively, there are quite a few
'Specialist' Rover / Land Rover companies in the US.

Ah, here in England we usually follow the word 'naughty' with the word
'spank' - at least, in certain establishment anyway... :)

DONE !

It is a V8 and a 3.9 engine - thanks to Derek for pointing me to a link that
showed me how to identify it.

That was what I based my pricing estimate on.
