head gasket problem

hi to all you freelander people can someone help, just put a new head gasket on freelander 1.8 xei s reg the gasket set come with 2 gaskets a thick one and a thin one put both on but engine still wont start should both be on or not couldsomeone whos knows about these heaps tell me what they think it could be
