Hello,

Im new and I usually post to here:Preloved | land rover freelander head gasket failure discussion uk
I have a 5 years old LR 1.8 Petrol K series and I love it. But its on HGF number 2 even though I check water and oil constantly. I moved (with the LR) to Switzerland and have been quoted 3,700 CHF for a new HG. Last time LR HQ paid 50% to my HGF admitted liability in a (patheitc) `good will gesture` Im currently in discussions as to what to do next. The current option is scrap (which is a massive shame) as if LR wont cough up I cant affors the work and dont know if its worth it. Has anyone else been in a similar position. LR Guy Salmon Stockport fixed it in September 2008 and this time it is just out of warranty.

I have a 2004 LR

Thank you

I'm afraid to say it but you ain't seeing anything unusual here. These engines just munch their gaskets unless they have had modifications to their cooling systems and have an upgraded headgasket. If you are thinking of scrapping they you might well be able to sell it as a non-runner. Won't get much admittedly but someone else might be able to getting it going again.

:welcome:
sequential HGF is a known design feature with the K and KV6 engines.

I was going to link to this and this - but I think you have .

best of luck. You will find that several peeps on here believe it is down to poor servicing and maintenance.

Thanks both. Think your right

Ill try ebay I think and put the garage here on hold. Problem is that Im in Switzerland and noone wants a right hand drive. Others suggested bringing it back to the UK somehow - but seems difficult

What a shame!!
