where abouts are you nodges?

ive just had top hose off the outlet and put my hose in expansion tank...i didnt get anything from the outlet at all, gonna try again tomorrow as il need to block the top rad hose off as that is where the water was coming out of.
i did complete bleed again but im still hearing the sloshing behind the dash and still not getting constant flow with the enigine running expanion cap off and top heater hose bleed screw out....at this point im sort of inclined to go with what garage said and replace the head.

well just a quick update ....i put hose on expansion tank to see if i got flow through rad outlet....not a drop.so the recon head will be ordered tomorrow,

as i will have the engine apart and because of the current blocked head i was planning on flushing the whole cooling system starting at heater matrix can i remove both pipes at bulkhead and put hose through the matrix? plan to do all coolant pipes this way to make sure no blockages.....want to do the job properly and thouroghly as im bored chasing this damn thing now i want to drive it!

Yes I did that to mine when I had the head off last winter [here]. I found that a piece of that garden irrigation pipe [12mm often sold in kits here] fitted snugly in each outlet/inlet. I also did as many rubber hoses as I could and disconnected the IRD cooler pipes, did them and the IRD cooler itself. I carefully sucked as much old coolant from around each liner as I could.

Don't forget to check and carefully clean that jiggle valve in the inlet manifold.

If you head is blocked buy some sort of sealant someone has put in there your radiator will need attention too no doubt.

thanks htr,

i plan to do the rad flush too, can u tell me......i dont really want to run the car in its current state now untill i have it done so...if i drain the rad, block the bottome hosee part off put cleaner in(not sure what sort yet) and fill with water, leave over night...wouldd that be any use?

To flush the radiator put your garden hose in the top opening and leave it running until you get a nice steady flow out of the bottom.

I know you said your going to buy a new head but it may be worth trying to clear the blockage out of your old one when you take the head off use a power washer and push it into the coolant elbow and give it a good jetting it may clear the crap out, it's worth trying before spending your hard earned another head.

I can't see that doing any harm. When I reassembled my motor I filled it with water and a solution of ordinary kitchen citric acid. Then ran the motor until the fans came on. Then left it over night to cool, drained and flushed the whole system out again, pulling heater and IRD hoses off again... and finally refilled with the correct coolant/antifreeze mix.

Are you going for the new head linked earlier in the thread or a recon?
Don't forget you will need some Hylomar Blue and the oil rail sealant.

Some of the guys over in ,org recommend a dishwater tablet in the system for a few hundred miles. Any thoughts from the Freeby experts?

I can see the theory but never tried it. I've use washing up liquid before now which did work, although took a lot of flushing out!

NOOOO!

Use dishwasher liquid, not a tablet. Tablet might clog system. Liquid doesn't - but it is caustic, so will find any weak spots - and don't leave it in too long!

all parts have arrived, the head is not recon but has been pressure tested and tested for flatness so all good,...did a flush of coolant system taday befoe ripping it all apart tomorrow(if the snow does one!)....all pipes i flushed were all clear tap water like what i was hoseing in......so.....to me...the head aint chuffing blocked grr. however still going ahead and will raise funds from my head sale after ive checked it on cmm at work.....the saga continues but im not giving up i love this car!

well work started today......the head is tested reclaim..........after taking the head off after a good flushing ...which tbh was spotless from all pipes.....the head reveiled.....water around the liners..so...surely they are sealing after all?

will continue tomorrow...hopefully itll be warmer!...brrrrrrrrrrrr

ok heres the latest part..............head/gasket changed,new plugs,new leads,new stat(before 1st attempt),

everything was flushed to check flows...all good......

its back together and running quite well but.......top rad hose is red hot, bottome one is cold....coolant in tank is not bubbleing up or boiling......

the bottom pipe is cold but so is top part of rad......untill i undo top bleed valve then bottom hose is warm is it should be.....

can some one maybe tell me at which point i should try get air out?...im thinking remove small hose from top of rad after a good run? hot air rises etc...or am i clutching at straws?

thanks
