hi i think i am going to have to change my head gasket on my 300tdi,do i need new bolts.i am trying to do it as cheap as possible

not necessarily ,head gaskets are made different thicknesses to suit piston protusion(height of tallest piston above block face ),the 3 hole is often used by some if heads skimmed to make up for valve been nearer piston only skim head if it needs it

i hope i dont have to skim the head, ive not cooked the engine and not done many miles since it chucked the water out the expansion tank.about £27 for head set so it should be a cheap fix.head dont look to hard to take off

no need to drain oil just coolant from block by plug on passenger side of engine just in front of down pipe half way up block ,saves contaminating oil and filling bores with coolant

whats the chances that will snap ,do i need the copper washers for the injector pipes or can i use the old ones.ive got a rocker gasket

rare ,you dont need to pull injectors out ,leak off washer pipes will reuse, rocker gasket will reuse with a little silicone sealant ,you need to torque bolts to 40nm twice as inner will slacken as you get to outer bolts ,then mark a corner of bolt and mark head ,one flat of bolt is the 60 degrees then mark head so you know which bolts have been done as you need 60 degrees x 2 ,then 20 degrees on 10 bolts that surround cylinders only ,if disco rear 2 most bolts need holding up but still in head as they cant be fitted or removed with head in place

my gasket at the mo is a 3 hole,if i need the head skimmed will i need a thicker gasket.i am trying to get all the parts before i strip it down

there is an after market thicker no hole gasket available , depth of face of valve below head surface is .9mm if less than .9 fit thicker gasket if greater should be okay after skimming, you will notice if valves touch while setting tappets
