Thanks for the replies and advice chaps. I'll do my own checks this weekend. As the symptoms have changed I'm convinced it is not terminal.

Ta again

Here are the codes:

P0740
P0705
P0734
P0735

"Suspect valve block fault"

Now with that many fault codes I strongly suspect it ain't anything to do with any valve block or solenoids but the connectors. Got the weekend spare will have a proper play and let folks know.

Ta.

Agreed. That many valve faults would most likely be related to the connectors.

After much thought I have decided to part with my Freelander. How do I go about it on here as I have not sold anything on the forum before?

TIA

List it in the for sale section.
Did yer fix yer fault?

Ta for the link. Think I have, tried it yesterday and it seems o.k., but for how long? Trouble is it has a list of fault as long and distinguished as my Johnson. Persistent coolant leak, always seems to run hot - fans on constantly. A bad rattle on startup which goes after about 5 mins - not the manifold as this is one I replaced about 2-3 years ago. To be honest I am losing faith in it as what it will need to be fixed/fettled next, so will either scrap it or spares/repairs.

Probably get me an X-Trial/Rav-4/CRV/Jeep.:D:D:D:D

If yer list the faults we can help with them. Would be a shame to see it go but as a wise ole Freelanderer once said to me "...once apathy set in it had to go".

Apart from the g/box:
It occasionally clunks as I come to a standstill, see above? Have changed diff and engine mounts and the 2-4 solenoid.
Persistent coolant loss. This seems to come from the coolant cap - suspect an air-lock. I've bleed it until the cows come home but it still does it.
Fans constantly on. Regularly hits 108 it's had a new 'stat. See above.
Oil leak. Not sure where this is from, the oil when checked is always black and is changed on a regular basis.
Bad rattle on start-up. Not the manifold, changed it about 3 years back. It quietens down after about 5mins, but is getting worse.
Front passenger window is starting to grind. Easy enough fix that one.

Yes apathy has set in.

Ta for the offer of support. Appreciate it.

The trouble we all have is this. All old cars have a life span and after 10 years everything starts going wrong with them. You either keep fixing it till the list is done or put up with its eccentricities and stay on top of the major problems. You want trouble free motoring then buy a new car. Them’s the facts of liff……Any way to help you out I will take it off your hands for £50 if you deliver it :p

Too late. Looked at a TD4 last week, right crock of excrement it was too. Got me eye on one or two replacements, no rush though.

I looked at many like that. It pays to look around and see what crops up.
My current SE was far from perfect. However it was cheap, had the options I wanted and looks acceptable.
