Ok probably I really stupid question... I'm replacing the steering bars on a D1, I can't get the rear bar in as the trailing arms are in the way... What am I doing wrong? Or do I have to take an arm off?

Take off the track rod end off the bar, fit it into the hub.
Screw the steering bar all the way on to the other track rod/ball joint then screw the bar onto the other
side then the two ends should have nearly equal amounts of threads either end as one is LH thread
& the other RH. ;)

Very strange, if you talking about the track rod, then the length from the centre of each balljoint should be the same as the the existing one that u have removed, it should just drop in.

Ive replaced the three balljoints at the hub end, ensuring the balljoint thread count was the same as the existing, the track rod was spot on. but the drag link I ended up with the steering wheel off centre, the balljoint required something like 1&1/2 turns to get the wheel back to centre. :(
