HD steering arms

I've got a set of HD steering arms off a donor vehicle that i'm gonna stick new track rod ends in and fit to my 90. However, they are covered in this goldy coating similar to galv, i think it's called zintex or something. I would like to paint them black as i'm not a fan of the gold. Is regular chassis paint ok or would i need to use etch primer first?
