Is it a function of the BECM? certainly the BECM controls the trailer lights and operates the little trailer symbol on the dash when the trailer is pluged in.

not sure, would it need a relay to flash ?

Most cars use a relay, not sure with the P38, so much is controlled by the BECM. The only way to be sure would be to look it up in RAVE.

At a guess I would say that even if there is an external relay involved, the control would come from the BECM.

Putting 12 volts on the switch may not be a good idea as it probably uses ground (0Volts) as the switch signal, could be very destructive:eek::eek::eek:

mmm i tested a freinds switch it had a live wire, could i swop becm with a freind for a better clue his is petrol not sure if that would harm owt if i did ?

Again a guess, I suspect the live you found at the switch was from the BECM and the switch grounds it. Check if one side of the switch goes to ground. Swapping BECM's is not to be recomended as it cntorls the alarm, engine immobilisation etc. you realy need to look at the wiring diagrams in RAVE
