Have you ever used your Landy to perform a "rescue mission"? (Something that couldn't be done with a 2wd car)

E.g.:

- Pulling out a car stuck in snow
- Transporting stranded people in adverse weather conditions (that couldn't be achieved by a 2wd car)
- Pulling a car out of the mud
- Rescuing a gaylander

Personally, I haven't as I've only had my gaylander since April. Maybe I will be of some when the weather gets bad!

Feel free to share any stories!

Rich

when we had all that snow earlier this year i was driving all over the place having fun in drifts etc and pulled 4 cars out of ditches in 2 days.:D:D

Yep last night out laning and a young lady forgot to turn the steering wheel and ended up nose first in a ditch on a quiet country lane and a gallant member pulled her wrecked fiesta out. she did'nt what wtf was going on when five land rover appeared out of the dark

Pulled a new shape VW Beetle thing out of a field after he had skidded on black ice last winter. Hope he goes in again this winter 'cos he gave me twenty quid. Nice!!

I worked for about 10 years at a garage that did accident recovery for west mercia police, it was all rural and back roads.

Some things were funny, others not so  .

A "gaylander " coming from a prick who wanted to get a bit more off road than yyour bmi thingy ,and ouve even got a photo of a girly jeep . go fugk yerself with yer feukkin polls .

As a member of HY4x4Response we were called out a couple of times to assist the police in getting traffic moving on steel icy hills etc. as well as recovering the Humber Bridge rescue launch after the launch tractor got stuck in the mud with the tide coming in.

with Robin when he pulled a tesco's home delivery and an Tesco's Artic that was stuck.

pulled plenty of stuff free on the farms i used to work on, dragged a couple of cars out of ditches, pulled a full 12 yard skip away from a shed so it could be collected no need to go into the rescues offroad

Yep,

was out playing my old s111 years ago on a cold and snowy New Years Eve when we found two old codgers stuck at the bottom of a hill on Ilkley Moor in W Yorkshire in their Astra I think it was, now i only had a truck cab on and a passenger that wasnt for sitting out back in the snow so i bundled em up and sat em in the back drove em about 4 miles back home.

The old dears wrote a letter into the local rag the next week saying i was truly an "Angel of the North" bless em. I dont read newspapers and was called by a good few friends who did to ask if was me that the old dear was writing about, again bless the old dear.

What is your problem? I call it a gaylander in threads like this because if I call it anything else, people may think I'm taking the car too seriously as a 4x4 and may assume I'm putting it in the same league as a Defender, when obviously it isn't. (Especially in the context of this thread!) Clearly, I do like and respect my Freelander overall, else I wouldn't have it! So if you think I'm trying to mock the Freelander, think again. What do you think people would say if I didn't use the light-hearted term "Gaylander?" Probably something like "What do you plan to rescue in your Gaylander?!! LOLOL." We've all heard these jokes all too often, and they can quickly result in a thread going off topic. By starting with a mild light-hearted joke, I will be closing the door for any further jokes of a similar sort. My use of the term was based on that logic alone. Besides, saying "Gaylander" is no worse than you calling it a heap.. (referring to your sig)

And what does the fact that I used to have a BMW have to do with anything? I fail to see how it's of any relevance here. Don't tell me you're a prejudice who really believes in these silly "BMW driver" stereotypes. I bought that car for the simple reason that they're said to be reliable, and because of the fact that the cabin was extremely quiet inside. Given that I'm 50% deaf, that mattered to me a lot. So please, don't even think about using any "BMW driver" stereotypes (as seen previously on this forum) because I think you will find that we don't all fit into that category...

As for my sig, I can put whatever I like in there providing it's not violating the forum rules. I have an interest in both Land Rovers and Jeeps and on this occasion, I thought the message was nice as it can apply to all 4x4 owners, not just Jeeps! Sure, many here are Land Rover fanatics and wouldn't even consider owning a different make of vehicle. However, not everyone is that way inclined and that should be respected.

And you're calling me the prick here? Perhaps you should go and take a look in the mirror matey because I think you will find that the prick will be staring at you right back in the face. Perhaps next time, you may want to form some kind of basis before you start throwing around unnecessary insults.

Have a nice evening.

Pulled a bloke's transit out of a ditch a while back. Dragged a poor numpty off some sand dunes after he thought he'd have a go at off roading in a nearly new disco and got cross axled.

lol, yeah the girls were a bit supprised, and we kept Chris busy all night......with some of the mud and water we found......:D:D:D:D:D

was it a case of right time wrong place , wrong time right place, or right place right time, spose that depends on our veiw our hers.....bet she was a bit peved on wed morn tho...

and there i was thinking 'international rescue' preparing a vehicle to enter the harsh unknown to bring back a small group of explorers who hit problems...

But, yes, towed lots of cars up icy / snowy hills and got paid for the odd one.

Never recovered anyone from a ditch yet though. The only time i found anyone in the ditch i rung the police and kept well back, both guys were very drunk and had been racing and in the process of using the pickup to try and pull the bmw out proceeded to smash the front of the bmw and get the pickup stuck. Then the pickup guy decided to leg it when the police pulled up... he didn't get very far.
