hi guys
it appears i have bumped my gearbox oil cooler whilst off roading as there is atf all over the road
to prevent this happening again would it be possible to fit a v8 cooler as i believe these are in a different location or is that not possible ? or would an undertray be a better route to go down, just trying to prevent it happening again ?
what have you guys done in relation to this
cheers in advance

Best to have some sort of guard if you're going to get heavy. I don't think Range Rover Evolution is still going but Devon-4x4 or similar might have some of their kit still.

You might want to look at some sort of diff lock too, like Airlockers (see Ashcroft's website).

cheers for the reply - will look in to undertrays then - shes more than capable so far without lockers - im not that extreme ;)

I had this question also.. for the very same reason. But not bumped it yet though!!
There is a cooler on my main radiator but I was worried it wouldn't be sufficient. The V8 gearbox cooler is a good choice. It would be nice to know what the pressure's are to and from the cooler for a custom installation.o_O

When I had issues with fitting a non standard cooler to a ZF AT ( a 4HP22 ), I rang ZF technical - they were very helpful, and confirmed what I suspected about the pressures* Assuming it's a ZF box, give em a ring - nowt to loose ;)

(* = less than 80 psi full load, about 40 at idle, and flow reverses on TQ lockup )

Did you go ahead with install?
What fittings did you use. Crimped hoses with threaded ends or something else?
Thank you for the info disco1:cool:;)

I did :) - I modified new LR pipes to fit a custom cooler made by Alutec. Piccie below.....

I also fitted a temperature gauge for the ATF, and even under heavy towing I rarely see more than 50 or 60 Centigrade.. (EGT is the limiting factor:rolleyes:)

Exhaust Gas Temperature :)

( quite often the factor which limits the performance of any alloy headed engine is the ability of the cooling system to dissipate the heat of combustion, and prevent the cylinder head(s) getting annealed  - which is never going to end well o_O)

On the 300Tdi's, EGT can climb rapidly, and this is why they left the factory in a relatively mild state of tune. They are tuneable to 200 HP - but the closer you get to this figure, the more careful you have to be with the EGT. The head is OK to 719 C - but at 720 ............

you need a new engine

Funny how a thread about AT cooling changes direction  :)
