After owning my first discovery for 4 days i have had time to get my teeth into it and check out what its like and although i love the drive and the spec its a 2003 late on, 2.5TD5 ES premium in silver..

Ive tried every toy and and button and all works fine but ive had a couple of off putting issues already...

Issue 1, ive done what 500 miles max in this in the time ive had it and this morning the ABS/TC/HILL DECENT lights come on - so i took it to my mates garage and he put his snap on solus tester on and ive a fault (SHUTTLE VALVE ELECTRICAL FAILURE)

Issue 2, worries me as much, disco parked on drive last night uphill quite steep drive ive got but front end facing up hill, got up this morning to find the parcel shelf roller blind had about 2 cups of water in the middle like a bird bath, looked like it had been dripping from both sides at upper tailgate inner trim joints and collecting in shelf vynal, so i dried it all away and went on my way off drive to find another bloomin load of water drop out as the disco levelled out, so dried out again, and on the road had a bit of water running down both front seat belts on to me and the passenger, i also had the odd drip out the center headling grommet to secure headliner onto roof= water dripped onto rear seat armrest  but only a drip or two..

Other than that and a slight brake judder all is well....

What i nightmare

any advice greatly apprieciated people im thinking leave it a week or so and burn it...

depressed Bob :(

Hi Neo, Try adjusting rear tailgate door striker so the door closes in slightly further and check out threads on sunroof leaks.....You aint bought a Pill mate, ALL DISCO'S do it

Dave

Cheers guys,

wolfydave = the water ingress was from above the door i opened the rear door and where the two quarter trims meet a trim that goes from L to R above the door opening against headlining and it was dripping out from the quarter/center trim joint on both sides...

Three amigo's :( i rang Les potts today and he quoted £555 to fix this FFS

Where you at Neo?

If its water coming in and dropping down headlining, its sunroof seals dirty and suroof drain tubes blocked.

The other cause of the leaks is what mine was - the sealant that seals the plastic frame to the roof gives up so water comes round the edge of the plastic window frame and floods the interior.

It's not hard to fix but does involve taking the headlining out and getting some good caravan sealant and sealing it down.

Satisfying when it is done though!

The shuttle valve fix - search on here, depending on how hands on you are there are a couple of options available to you...

Wolfy i'm in willington near crook, 4 miles from bishop auckland mate....

Sunroof seals ? is that glass to frame or frame to roof skin or both ??

Will try the sunroof water drains first,

Whats happened is all the water has gone to the rear of roof and dripped out the trims round the tailgate door, as my drive is quite steep, will do a water test at weekend window by window with hose pipe and see what i find, where do the drains go from cassette to ??

Ah, you aint far from me either then :)

The 'sealant' on mine that had gone was from frame to roof skin, but it is certainly worth checking the glass to frame ones as you can pull them out and clean them without having to take anything apart.

The drains go from the front sunroof to the front wheelarches, and from rear to behind the two rear light clusters.

Gay lander lol, yes true...

I did have another 4x4 nightmare last year i bought a 2006 new shape L200 quadcab animal pick up, with 32k on the clock.. in the first 6 months of owning it it has £6k worth of repairs under warrenty and when i had it 10 months i sold the bugger as the warrenty was nearly out, japs reliable not a chance...

This is the direct link to the shuttle valve fix

ABS Mod - Land Rover Club V.I.

I also had the 3 amigos and did this fix. Its easy. It is a bit fiddly getting the valve assembly out and the new one in - but there is no need to bleed the brakes afterwards. The valve itself is about £35 on Ebay.

I strongly recommend you do the "fix" - ie bypass the exisiting connection in the ABS unit. This is the cause of the problem and just fitting a new valve wll only achieve a fix for a few weeks at best.

I did mine in about 90 minutes. No problems since (6 months and 6k miles).

One caveat. It is essential you confirm (as you have) that it is the shuttle valve. If its a wheel sensor then (clearly) replacing the shuttle valve will have no effect.

I understand this is a MOT fail so it does need doing.

Do not pay £555 - it should cost about £40 if you do it yourself.

Go for it.

BTW - my sunroof also leaks! Even after taking out headlining, clearling tubes, re-doing drain boxes - plan to have another go soon - just in time for the autumn rain!

Good luck.

Hi
Had the same problems on my Disco 2 years ago, garage renewed front sunroof tray at a cost of £400 made no difference at all, I ended up buying a £5 tube of mastic and sealing it all round the 2 sunroof flanges to body skin, never leaked since. No I didnt get my £400 back. Cheers Vernon
