Harman Kardon DSP amp compatabilty

Hi guys - I have a 2000 P38 vogue with the full Harman Kardon set up. A while back the complete sound system just went silent, the head unit is illuminated and seems to function normally, the CD changer operates but no sound at all.

I've tried changing the head unit with no joy, so I presumed it was the DSP amp. I managed to get a replacement off E-bay at somewhat less than the £320 quoted by LR, but fitting it just produced a regular clicking noise from the sub whoofer unit.

The original DSP is HK part No A4053 BE 3895 but the new one off a vehicle a year older is part No A4062 BE 3895 - anyone know if there is a compatabilty issue with these two units, or can anyone supply any further inspiration :confused:
 
Hi there. I seem to have exactly the same problem as you, no sound out of anything although everything seems to function properly including the sat nav apart from sound.

My DSP has the newer part/model number as you have bought from ebay so maybe that is the way to go. Mine is a 2001 4.6 vogue. I have had the DSP apart to see if there was an internal fuse but to no avail. If you have managed to get yours fixed perhaps you could share the fix with me. I have seen a few threads now with this problem so I guess it is known, just trying to find the most economical way forward. Thanks
 
Hi again- sorry for tardy response, been away for a bit;) .

I haven't made any progress with this. I took the vehicle to a landrover "specialist" i.e. not a main dealer, who said he could definitley fix it- he couldn't. As an ex techy, my next step is to try and get hold of the correct wiring diagram for my system, and try and prove what's happening electrically.

Anybody know where I can the wiring info from - preferably FOC:)

I'm having the same problem, does your rover hav NAV. on it?
 
Hey Lord Slob, Sir Yella, and HRH Redhand, do any of you know what these guiys are going on about?

Is Harman Kardon a new type of UJ I need to find out about?

I think their trying to say (and don't Quote me on this) that their really expensive sound system has packed in and rather than just getting a plain boring car radio/cd player. As you or I would they intend to spend days wasting money trying to get the original one fixed. Of course I could be mistaken.

Why didn't they say so?

What's wrong with the radio the car came with and put it on Radio Two?
Mine can play CDs but not tapes. As I don't have any tapes that's fine by me.
It can make a lot louder noises than I can stand. Why do they need more?
Are they deaf? If not yet, by the sounds of it they will be soon enough.

Ah think it's a bit like people what buy Bang & Olufson stereos fer their houses just so they can brag that they've got a better sound system than their mates. Even though no one who listens to it can tell the difference between it and a cheap Jap HIfi system

I have just bought a 2001 range rover vogue.

It has the full harman kardon sound system in, just been to have it checked out and the main amp has gone.

I need to find a replacement for

Hi there

I did get a replacement unit off ebay and it fixed the problem....... but only short lived!!!! Now it has broken again. I am so tempted to rip out the HK system as it pants anyway, but it is an expensive fix. Will wait a while and save my money. Good luck with whatever you decide.
 
Only thing with ripping the system out is that the sat nav wont work through the system any more.
 
i ripped mine out,the dealer wanted £320 for a new amp,so i went to halfrauds bought a sony xplod dvd mp3 head unit 7" screen and 4 xplod custom speakers and fitted the whole lot in sounds great and it cost me £290 as they did me a deal,it was just a pain running the wires for the speakers,as you can,t use the original loom as it all goes to the h/k amp except for the tweeters;)

Which amp had gone and where abouts please i have the same problem no sound but everything else works fine

Each to their own - the full HK system is awesome in full working condition so why shouldn't people try to get theirs working again if they can? When the amps on these systems give problems, the sound goes completely, even Radio Two :) No noise at all, nada. The head units do not have a built-in amp so changing systems for a new fit is not entirely straightforward like swapping out a conventional car stereo for another. :eek:
Not sure anyone should knock people for wanting to repair a system they already have in a vehicle.....:eek::eek:
 
Mines just gone into landrover for the same problem an the bill is huge made me feel sick these dsp's are a pain in the tits
 
I think it's just a few people who can't appreciate good quality sound systems who are giving these guys sh*t. I would want to sort my HK system out if it went wrong, hell I would do it just for the aesthetics of the cabin. Nothing worse than these flash after market systems in quality vehicles, a Citroen Saxo though is a different matter :rolleyes:

Guys, just ignore the old folks who don't care what system they have as long as they can listen to the wireless!!

Agree 100%. Maybe the Luddites who've had so much negative stuff to say about repairing HK systems use their portable trannies as their "car radio" as it becomes a "car radio" when its in the car, not so? Why on earth would anyone need anything else ?:director::fighting2:
