Hard to close doors

Has anybody got any tips on dealing with doors that are hard to close fully?

Mine are a real bugger to close and I am tempted to go for the anti burst locks. Will this improve things? Is it more a simple adjustment of the catch bolted to the pillar?

Do you mean you really need to slam them to close properly? Sounds like a simple catch adjustment......5 minutes with the spanner.

Yeah, it takes a good couple of slams to get them closed properly. I look all gentlemanly opening and closing the missus door but just one push would be nice.

Or maybe you have my experience of having New doors and new door seals that have resulted in my series 3 having the doors not quite finally closing as easily as I would expect! They require a slightly heavier final push to close fully! Even though I have tried all adjustments possible! I WILL however replace the seals with LENGTHS of those used on my MGB GT splash panel! These are similar in design but not quite as thick! Should the ones in place at the moment not bed in over time! Kind regards. Chris

I had same issue Chris. After a few weeks they fitted better. Did you use genuine seals? The genuine seals are much softer than similar Britpart items.

Landraver I purchased the doors and seals from famous four in Louth! (A great and very helpful bunch of gents), but not genuine replacement seals but Britpart! (Well if the British army use them?) However ALL replaced moving parts for my Landy during restoration were genuine and from Hunters landrover in Kings lynn. ( praise for these helpful and courteous gents too) kind regards. Chris

Replace hard seals with softer genuine ones - defender ones can be edited to fit on front door-tops.

Check catches are positioned right.
Check along the waist line of the doors if the door is drooping at all then the curve of the body / door will not close together right making the door a **** to close:
Check doors are fitted straight - there is some adjustment to be had by undoing hinge bolts and lifting / leaning on door while somebody else does up the bolts.
Check bulkhead is straight - mine was out by a long way. undoing the bolts around the top of the windscreen and door top and applying force while retightening has improved the shut lines a little but could do with properly resiting.

Still have to slam mine just not as hard...

Dunsfold Land Rover stock genuine seals. They are new 'old stock'. They are a bit pricey but might be a solution. Give the Britpart seals a few weeks - perhaps when the warmer weather comes they will mould to the gap better.

Worn hinges do this as does adjystment out on bulkhead bolts. But this can also signify a bending chassis usually from rust or accident damage. Check both sides to be sure its just worn door hinges.

check bulkhead for rust too - i had this problem - turns out the bottom of the bulkhead is rusty and door has dropped slightly
