Hard EAS fault - Any advise on this issue?

2 days in to owning a L322 TD6 2002 ( I know, I know, dont say anything :D), it was holding level on test drive and after a couple of days dropped on NSF. I went to a mates diagnostics and he said the 3 other corners were in plus figures and the NSF was in a minus. Anyway, it didnt show any fault codes and he took it to its highest and lowest setting on diagnostics. Still was lazy in that corner.

Now after 30 mins of driving the EAS selector has gone off and no lights meaning a hard fault. Im yet to plug in but am I right in thinking that so far it seems like a faulty air bag?

Blown airbag would be the first thing to look for. Replace both fronts at the same time and beware that the Dunlop replacement struts seem to suffer from a knocking noise.
 
Didnt Arnnot post the other day that they are now doing air springs for the front off l322, sure i read it , as there seames to be a ? over Dunlop ones makeing a knocking noise thay may be better option.
 
Genuine Deplhi struts have come down in price massively recently

And are only £20 more expensive than the Dunlop ones
£200 a pop from Island 4x4
 
Ah ok. Wasnt noisy and took the 10 seconds between heights. I'll get on to that airbag asap. Should it show the airbag fault on diag as opposed to just the minus figure? Cheers
 
The system wont know a bag is faulty, but the system does know if a commanded height change doesnt happen in a time frame that it expects....it may say that a valve or sensor is at fault as it thinks that because of the lack of height change it may be a stuck valve causing it or the sensor isnt reporting the change of height.

As for spotting it visually, it may be an obvious split in the bag, or as is more often the split is hidden under a fold!

You can sometimes tell by getting a bowl or bucket of really soapy water using washing up liquid and painting or spraying on the bag and looking for bubbles or put the suspension in off road height and feel around the bag taking care not to get crushed in the process if the bag deflates.
 
UPDATE

After plugging in the Ethos diag it came up with: 100 Articulation Validity Fault.

After clearing it the EAS lights came back on. Now after we tested hights at full and low the NS voltage values were somewhat out from the OS. It seemed to hang lower on the NS. We put at full height turned off and left it. It didnt drop any further leading me to think the airbag is ok. Cant hear a leak and doesnt seem to drop when its in position.

Then took for a few drives and EAS hard fault resumed, no lights and after diag came back with the same 100 fault.

Should I assume this is a sensor issue and if so where do I start? I tried the steering angle sensor with diag and its showing value changing when the wheel turns so I presume its not that. I also adjust the height bar and whilst it changed voltage vales on diag it didnt obviously have any realation to the fault as it still persists?

Any advise is greatly received.

The leaks on airbags open and close where they fold under, so putting it on full height and leaving it actually proves nothing.
As far as I'm aware, the values you read from the height sensor are just that, values not volts, at least that is the case on the P38. The values side to side vary as the sensors are not high precision devices. You can look at sensor values on live data, if one is erratic or way out on the readings, it may be faulty or the connector may be corroded.
 
That fault is almost 99% of the time a sensor out of range.....

The ECU considers the reading from the one sensor to be so wildly different from the rest, that the vehicle suspension geometry couldnt even articulate to those angles, so it considers that the information it has received regarding axle articulation is invalid and the system can no longer determine the vehicle ride or attitude correctly and goes into hard fault....

Check your sensors and connectors.

This doesnt mean you dont have a split bag, a more thorough check on that is required.
