C**ts! I hate these people!

What those who go out and pay to go with them ? or those who organise them ?

Either way and its been discussed in depth before how we to legally stop them as yet no ones come up with an answer.

If the damand is there and people want to pay 200 odd quid per weekend to join them how do you encourage them to go out for free or do it lightly cheaper by encourage them to join a club and go out in small groups.

Theres 2 - 3 clubs/groups going out this weekend, almost the same route, wild camping and organised into small parties of no more than 4 per group. Doubt they will even see each other till the campsite at night, well organised and known about for months, yet people still pay vast sums to be led in groups of 18 plus.

The organisers that show pure disregard for the lanes. You will never stop the commercial enterprises but they need to be regulated or controlled with a maximum of 5 vehicles per team as per glass recommendations (although i dont get the whole glass thing) its down to personal respect but as with most things these days there is no respect for anything Jai

I see your point and trying not to take sides however speaking to a few organisers they point out just because some self appointed organisation has suggested a limit of 4 per convoy, its only a voluntary code and not illegal to do so.

Then they will argue they go out a lot and meet other groups with just as many if not more in a group all supporting various forum & club stickers. Some argue they provide a service to novices and a introduction to the hobby and also find less likley to go off piste and wreck more of the countryside.

What I do find odd is one can advertise within clubs and on forums a "free weekend" doing all the routes if not more on the same weekend all lanes checked out etc and still struggle to get 2 groups of 4. Yet people go and pay 200 odd quid to sit behind 18 odd on a lane

Soon will be (if not totally illegal to drive lanes full stop) if they keep it up!

By setting a **** poor example? Not a great argument!

Doesn't surprise me. People often can't be arsed to put the research work into a good laning trip. If you can throw some lucre at some half arsed organisation and all you have to do is turn up & tag along, a lot of people will. They also feel blameless then if what they're doing is unpopular or detrimental to the hobby.

Oh, the GLASS limit. Yes they are self appointed, but they do a lot of good work on our behalf whether you subscribe or not & the vehicle limit is there for good reason. If you meet horses or walkers or cyclists on a lane in an 18 strong convoy you're going to cause a fecksight more disruption/annoyance/bad feeling than a group of four or five!

Just came across this thread. I'm just back from the Wild Wales weekend and can therefore say with authority that everything written so far here is horse****. The instructors were very responsible and did not veer from the proper tracks (i.e. not even onto the grass) once. All gates were closed behind us and there were 6 cars in our group travelling on what are public roads.

I went laining this weekend i stayed on the lain and some big 4x4 came up the river all with the same ww. treck logo on them very responible i thort just because you pay to go on thees free lains dont meen you got to take the wee i didnt pay a thing and had a nice day on the lain.

James, I suggest you wind your neck in. The OP was pointing out what he saw at a particular place at a particular point in time. Unless you were on the same weekend at the same place at the same time your remarks are unfounded. I dont know your background, but many people here (including my inexperienced self) have witnessed organised green lane tours with vehicles over the "generally" accepted limits at various well know lanes throughout the UK.

In line with pointing out Protrax on Happy Valley, I will also add here (mentioned elsewhere) that Protrax had in excess of 20 vehicles in a convoy through the Atlas Mountains in Morocco with only 2 company vehicles. They know their doing it, its no mistake. Lets just hope things have changed on a more permenent basis and that your weekend was not just a quiet one.

aside from that, welcome to the forum ;)

Griff - wind your own neck in and listen to what is being said and what has been written by others. My experience of Protrax from meeting and talking to the instructors and actually doing what you talk (just talk) about is that you could not hope to meet more responsible people who respected the countryside and did not tear it up or cause any damage at all.

There were actually 18 Land Rovers in our group overall. Please tell me why it matters if this split into two groups or did it as one big group when :-

(1) Its perfectly legal to drive on these roads.
(2) No damage was caused in the slightest.
(3) The people that went had never heard of Happy Valley until they were guided there and would have never known about it otherwise.
(4) During 150 miles of driving over two days, 4 hill walkers were seen. In September!

This whole thread is unfriendly to other people who were using the trails quite legitimately, safely and carefully and, frankly, I really don't care if you don't like that because it's none of your business.

Whats this.....dig up an old thread to comment hore**** day????
Even Harold Shipman had his lets be responsible days.

Not really sure what you're talking about there Sirius but just to say that I did not dig this up to cause trouble. I was looking up Happy Valley on Google and the thread is listed on the first page. Given Protrax had been so good I thought anyone that similarly was directed to this thread ought to see the truth rather than misinformed rubbish.:D

So why say that what had been said was horse****? 90boy has a lot of experience in these matters and was saying what he saw, you weren't there so how can you say he's wrong or that he's talking horse****?

So, you pay your £hundreds only to find that other forums take groups out responsibly and feel you've been cheated slightly and take it out on an old thread?

Heheheh, no need to spend £hundreds to go to Happy Valley etc, look in the green-laning section and see where we're going late October, run by 90Boy. I'm sure our little freebie will be just as good, if not better, than any laning run with 18 or more vehicles in tow ...

Ah Paul stop talking sense he obviously doesn 't understand the image that 18 landrovers in a huge procession driving through the countryside could possibly be percieved by the bobbleheads as causing damage to their precious countryside (even if they are not) and make them more likely to complain to the councils trying to pressurise them into closing the byways......He hasn't got the common sense to save himself money by investing in a map and finding out about the lanes himself so he obvious aint gonna have a clue is he.

yer sorry, I was just talking about being in Morocco and seeing over 20 rovers with Protrax. my mistake

If you look hard enough its easy to find info on happy valley or any other lanes and go by yourself. If you want to spend your money being shown around by a profit making organisation... be my guest. Dont talk like you know me, because you have no idea. I have driven all of the well known lanes in Wales as a solo vehicle and know the area and its people very well. I have not once reached into my pocket to pay someone to show me around or hold my hand.

I suppose your paying someone the £1000+ to be shown around Morocco to? :blabla: grow some balls.

Ah Paul stop talking sense

I must be drunk ...

Got it in a nutshell, Sirus, in a nutshell .. ;)

i think what you chaps said about sums it up, how can taking 18 landys accros lanes be a good thing, that i strugle to see and paying to do so you must be mad, whats wrong with a bit of map reading and planing for more fun. Also its far beeter having small groups 5 is the max i ever take everyone injoys it more
